Summer Term 2020

 A message from Mrs. Murley:

I hope you have all had a lovely half term. I have spent the week with my 2 children and dog, visiting the beaches around newquay close to where I live and our allotment looking after the plants we are growing, enjoying the beautiful weather.
Whether you are at home or in school I am really looking forward to sharing this learning with you.

Our project this term is:
What can you see in Summer?

What can you see in summer? What can you smell? Let's explore these questions together and more. The changes happen in the natural world, the weather and what people do during the summer months. Let's hope the sunshine stays with us during this topic!
WEEK 1 - 1st - 5th June 2020
FOCUS: What can you see in Summer?
 Phonics

We follow Read Write Inc in Reception and then move onto Optima in Year 1 and 2. IF you would like to support your child with their phonics over the coming months, we are suggesting the following:

In summary, if you would like to continue with phonics learning at your children’s pace, have a go at this:

  1. Go through the green and red words (children reading them, not writing)
  2. Watch the small video daily
  3. Practice your child’s reading (make sure they enjoy it!)

Please keep your eye on our website for word mats and more resources. You can always find practice RWI lesson videos online if you wanted more of an understanding.

Mathematics

By the end of the Summer term, the children should be able to:
  • Count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number.
  • Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer.
  • The solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.
Each week, it would be great if the children could practice their general number skills to twenty.
One of the ways we do this in school is through Numberblocks, the small video clips through CBeebies. https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/shows/numberblocks
I am sure the children would love to see these still!

Also I have a go at the 99 Club on a Friday, can they write their numbers ?

We will also have a weekly focus to support their development. This week it is pattern. Have a go at the worksheets below and of course, can the children create patterns through their play?
What can you see in Summer?

Each week I will put different activities up here to support this project. I am really looking forward to seeing all the exciting learning on Tapestry.

Why not collect all your child's learning into a scrapbook? Please let me know if you need a new one.

I have added the booklist to this project to give you an idea of what books we would normally read to your children at this time. Please don't go out and buy them, this is just a guide!
