Class 3

Class 3 is home to the children in years 3 and 4. It is staffed by class teacher Mrs Lorna Burton, assisted by Mrs Vaughn and Mrs Pay.

In class 3 our motto is ‘If I’m stuck, I’m not failing, I’m learning.’ We are encouraged to think about how we learn and to relish the challenge of being ‘stuck’, enjoying this feeling, instead of being scared of it.

Happy children learn and we spend plenty of time getting to know each other well and learning how to treat others with respect and kindness. We enjoy earning ‘golden tickets’ for this and take great pride in celebrating each other’s achievements. A very important time for all of us in class 3 is circle time; when we share our feelings, discuss issues we are having and work together to come up with solutions.

Our class is a vibrant and colourful place which reflects our current learning. We are experts at using our environment to help us be independent learners, particularly in using what is on the boards and in our books to find the information we need. We also work in buddies a lot, not only to help us with our learning, but also to build new relationships.

Reading is very important to us in class 3. We enjoy our daily reading time and have a wide range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry books to choose from, as well as newspapers and magazines. We are also lucky to have many practical maths resources, which we can access at all times to help us with our maths learning.
